U.S abolishes post of ‘special envoy’ to Afghanistan, Pakistan

The United States has abolished the post of its special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A senior State Department official told a foreign news agency that the acting special representative Laurel Miller is stepping down and he would not be replaced by anyone.

The office was created when US officials decided that the conflicts in Afghanistan and Pakistan are inextricably linked and ought to be dealt with together.
