PSX Close: KSE-100 Index down by 305.40 points

August 25, 2022 (MLN): The capital market on Thursday opened on a positive note as value hunting was witnessed across the board wherein the benchmark KSE-100 index made an intraday high of 43,458.92. However, the absence of positive triggers has forced the index to close at 43,032.57, with a loss of 305.40 points.

Political uncertainty has increased due to the start of court proceedings against PTI leaders. HUBCO skipped dividend payment this quarter, as it dragged the market down by chipping away -132pts. Additionally, the PKR continued to lose its value owing to a higher demand for dollars by travelers flying to the UAE, the post-closing note by Pearl Securities noted. 

Of the 94 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 23 closed up 68 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 92.58 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Power Generation & Distribution with 142 points, Fertilizer with 32 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 28 points, Commercial Banks with 28 points, and Technology & Communication with 25 points.

The most points taken off the index was by HUBC which stripped the index of 133 points followed by ENGRO with 25 points, MEBL with 18 points, BAHL with 16 points, and MCB with 14 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 46 points, Pharmaceuticals with 3 points, and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 1 point.

The most points added to the index were by LUCK which contributed 32 points followed by HBL with 24 points, BAFL with 7 points, CHCC with 7 points, and PIOC with 7 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 48.36mn to 208.12mn shares. Market cap decreased by Rs46.95 billion.

Total companies traded were 343 compared to 342 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 110 closed up, 209 closed down while 24 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 3,635 to 103,551.

Value Traded decreased by 0.96bn to Rs7.78bn
