Pakistan’s annual inflation for the month of September at 3.86%

Pakistan’s annual inflation for the month of September accelerated to 3.86% compared to previous month's (August) inflation of 3.41%, despite falling short of the expectations.

Inflation for the month of September was expected to cross 4% and fall within the 4 – 4.5% range.

On month-on-month basis, the Inflation rate was 0.63 percent in September over previous month, compared to 0.2 percent in August. 

Comparing the same quarter to previous year, Inflation for the first three months of 1Q FY ’16 clocked in at 1.6%, inflation has picked up significantly over the year as prices for food items especially vegetables have skyrocketed during the last three months. Inflation during July – Sep '17 averaged at 3.39%.

Food items such as onions, tomatoes and mangoes were the main reason behind the increase in month-on-month prices.
