November 16, 2023 (MLN): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board will soon approve the disbursement of $700 million which is expected to serve as a catalyst for subsequent contributions from other bilateral donors, caretaker finance minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar stated.
To note, the IMF staff and the Pakistani authorities yesterday reached a staff-level agreement on the first review under Pakistan’s Stand-By Arrangement (SBA), subject to approval by the IMF’s Executive Board.
Upon approval, Pakistan will have access to SDR 528m, which is around $700m.
This will bring the total disbursements under the program to almost $1.9 billion.
