Govt launches E-Rozgaar centers to boost IT sector

January 12, 2024 (MLN): To boost Pakistan's economy by harnessing the full potential of Pakistan’s IT sector, the Government of Pakistan has launched E-Rozgaar/Co-working centers across Pakistan, supported by interest-free loans and assistance with training costs.

This initiative aims to create an ecosystem where talented individuals can thrive, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed in his address at the event of Tech Destination Pakistan.

More than 1.5 million people are currently freelancing in the country, and most of them do not have the required facilities, internet, laptop, or suitable space.

This initiative aims to establish 10,000 e-employment centers across the country, with an initial phase involving the setup of 250 centers in various cities.

Dr. Umar Saif, Caretaker Federal Minister of IT & Telecom stated, "soon we will achieve the target of 10,000 centers across the country, contributing to IT exports reaching Rs10 billion by increasing the capacity of IT talent."

Anwaar-ul-Haq highlighted that Pakistan is ranked as the second most financially attractive destination in the world for offshore outsourcing of IT and IT enabled Services (ITeS).

Pakistan is also ranked as the third most popular country for freelancing.
