FDI rises 67% MoM to $146m in August

September 14, 2023 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan stood at $146.1 million in August 2023, registering a notable increase of 66.61% MoM and 15.44% YoY compared to $87.7m in July 2023 and $126.6m in August 2022, the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $197.6m, up by 37.8% YoY, while the outflow surged to $51.5m, up by over 2.06x YoY.

With respect to the portfolio investment under FDI, an inflow of $6.4m was witnessed through equity securities, as compared to the net selling of equity securities worth $10.5m in August 2022.

The foreign private investment into the country amounted to $152.5m in August 2023, which jumped by 31.34% YoY compared to 116.1m in August 2022.

Meanwhile, foreign public divestment stood at $2.1m during the review month.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $150.4m, compared to $115.5m in August 2022.

On a cumulative basis, within 2MFY24, FDI increased by 31.79% YoY to $256.5m as compared to FDI of $194.6m reported in the corresponding period last year.
