PSX Closing Bell: Suspended Animation

December 23, 2021(MLN): The capital market remained in a state of consolidation on Thursday with the benchmark KSE-100 gaining 91.94 points or 0.21% during the trading session and closing at 44,266.91.

According to the market wrap by Aba Ali Habib Securities, “Strong participation in the PIB auction on Wednesday, along with the recent 63-day OMO injection of PKR 1.7 trillion indicates a pause in monetary policy tightening measures in the near term, consequently boosting investors’ confidence.”

However, uncertainty regarding the mini-budget was carried forward from yesterday, restricting much positive movement in the benchmark index, it added.

The Index traded in a range of 334.81 points or 0.76 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 44,447.73 and a low of 44,112.92.

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 53 closed up 38 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 85.05 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Technology & Communication with 69 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 12 points, Cement with 12 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 5 points and Food & Personal Care Products with 5 points.

The most points added to the index was by TRG which contributed 77 points followed by UBL with 13 points, DAWH with 7 points, HMB with 7 points and UNITY with 6 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 14 points, Chemical with 5 points, Fertilizer with 4 points, Paper & Board with 3 points and Automobile Assembler with 3 points.

The most points taken off the index was by SYS which stripped the index of 13 points followed by HBL with 12 points, MCB with 10 points, FFC with 7 points and MEBL with 7 points.

All Share Volume increased by 88.64 Million to 240.43 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.7.34 Billion.

Total companies traded were 357 compared to 339 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 199 closed up, 135 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 19,518 to 99,816.

Value Traded increased by 1.47 Billion to Rs.8.02 Billion
