Mar 04, 2020 (MLN): Pakistan's trade deficit for 8 months (July-February) FY20 was USD 15.77 billion compared to a deficit of USD 21.47 billion from the corresponding period from FY19.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the trade deficit for the month of February 2020 was recorded at USD 1.932 billion compared to a revised deficit of USD 2.157 billion from January 2020 showing an improvement of 10.43 percent.
Compared to February 2019 deficit of USD 2.263 billion, the trade numbers improved by 14.63 percent
Exports increased by 8.24 percent to USD 2.141 billion compared to USD 1.978 billion in January 2020.
Similarly compared to February 2019 exports increased by 13.82 percent.
Imports in February 2020 decreased by 1.5 percent, clocking in at USD 4.073 billion compared to USD 4.135 billion in January 2020, while on a yearly basis imports decreased by 1.71 percent
Overall the 8 month exports stood at USD 15.648 billion compared to USD 15.097 from the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 3.65 percent. However Imports during the period decreased by 14.06 percent to USD 31.421 billion compared to USD 36.563 from the same period of FY19.
