Yearly Inflation at 3.66 percent in January

The PBS released the Inflation figures for January, following is the summary of their release.

  • CPI inflation General increased by 3.66% on year-on-year basis in January 2017 as compared to an increase of 3.70% in the previous month and 3.3% in January 2016. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.2% in January 2017 as compared to a decrease of 0.7% in the previous month and an increase of 0.2% in January 2016.
  • Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 5.4% on (YoY) basis in January 2017 as compared to increase of 5.2% in the previous month and 4.3% in January 2016. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 1.1% in January 2017 as compared to increase of 0.1% in previous month, and an increase of 0.9% in corresponding month of last year i.e. January 2016.
  • Core inflation, measured by 20% weighted trimmed mean CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 3.8% on (YoY) basis in January 2017 as compared to 3.7% in the previous month and by 3.0% in January 2016. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 0.6% in January 2017 as compared to an increase of 0.1% in the previous month and an increase of 0.6% in corresponding month of last year i.e. January 2016.
  • SPI inflation on YoY increased by 0.4% in January 2017 as compared to an increase of 0.5% a month earlier and an increase of 3.1% in January 2016. On MoM basis, it decreased by 0.8% in January 2017 as compared to a decrease of 0.8% a month earlier and a decrease of 0.7% in January 2016.
  • WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 4.2% in January 2017 as compared to an increase of 3.1% a month earlier and an increase of 0.1% in January 2016. WPI inflation on MoM basis increased by 0.5% in January 2017 as compared to decrease of 0.1% a month earlier and a decrease of 0.5% in corresponding month of last year i.e. January 2016.
