SECP chairman pressured to tamper record, reveals director

Director of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Maheen Fatima has revealed that the SECP record on Sharif family's business details was changed at the behest of Chairman Zafar Hijazi.

According to a private news channel, the Director said this in her statement recorded with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and confessed to having tempered with record at the pressure exerted by SECP boss. She said Zafar Hijazi pressurized her to give statement against the JIT.

She said SECP chairman asked her to complain against the aggressive attitude of the JIT members, saying, “The boss directed me to give statement that JIT members' harsh behavior made him weep.”

Maheen Fatima told the FIA that Hijazi pressurized her to put a backdated note in an official file in 2016 in order to hoodwink the interrogators that the probe against Chaudhry Sugar Mill Limited (CSML) was closed in 2013. She said she told the same to the JIT.

Maheen claimed that, “The probe against the Sharifs’ sugar mill was closed in May 2013 on satisfactory explanation by the Company.

She revealed that, “The CSML files were called in 2016 by a concerned officer in respect to inquiry on Panama Leaks.”
