PSQCA directed to formulate policy to keep check on non-mandatory products

The Standing Committee on Science and Technology Thursday directed Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) to formulate a policy in order to keep check and balance on non-mandatory products so that the quality of these products could not be compromised.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Science and Technology under the Chairmanship of Ch. Tariq Bashir Cheema, MNA.

The Standing Committee expressed its concern that out of 22000 items only 108 products are included in the mandatory list of PSQCA despite the fact, that these items have licenses but the department could only take actions against the mandatory products.

The Committee was informed that overall results of open market surveillance reveal that in Islamabad and its peripheries the conformance level to the relevant PSS is quite good except Bottled Drinking Water which is significantly less than the average level of overall performance.

The Committee directed that PSQCA should take strict action against those manufacturers who did not fulfill the required criteria and its report be submitted to the Committee on monthly basis. The Committee further directed that PSQCA should coordinate with media personals in order to expose the sub-standard manufacturers.

MNAs, Sarzameen, Chaudhary Muhammad Ashraf, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana, Makhdoom Syed Ali Hassan Gillani, Aftab Shahban Mirani, Shamas-un-Nisa, Ali Muhammad Khan, Lal Chand Malhi, Sajid Ahmad, Mehboob Alam, Aliya Kamran, Shahjahan Muneer Mangrio and Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai attended the meeting, besides officials of the Ministry.
