October 1, 2021 (MLN): The National Consumer Price Index for September 2021 is increased by 2.12% over August 2021 and increased by 8.98% over the corresponding month of the last year i.e. September 2020.
The July-September average inflation is 8.58% compared to 8.84% from the corresponding period of last year.
Inflation climbed higher than expected in September as the market projection was between 7.9% – 8.43%YoY.with the average estimate of 8.17%.
Even Finance Ministry in its latest September Economic Outlook expected that inflation may end up in between 7.5% to 8.4%. However, it noted that in the month of September, MoM inflationary impulses may come from 2nd round effects of a previous increase in international commodity prices, currency depreciation and some seasonal factors.
