Dar calls for tax payers’ facilitation, strengthening of tax base for revenue collection

Lauding Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Federal Finance Minister, and Senator Ishaq Dar on Saturday said that tax payers’ facilitation and strengthening of the tax base should be the hallmark of revenue collection policy.

Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar stated while chairing the Customs Chief Collectors/Director Generals conference at the FBR headquarters.

Welcoming the initiative to hold the conference, the finance minister said it provided good opportunity for interaction and sharing of professional experiences.

Finance Minister said that Customs along with the IRS had an important role to play in enhancing revenue collection.

He said that taking revenue collection from Rs.1946 billion in 2013 to Rs. 3362 billion in 2017 was a creditable achievement by FBR under the PML-N Government. This showed over 70% growth in overall collection in the last four years.

This momentum, he said should be maintained with dedicated efforts in future as it would contribute significantly to PML-N Government's resolve for inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the country.

He called upon senior officials to double their efforts for meeting the collection target  for the current fiscal year. He assured full support to the officials in this regard.

On Friday, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the number of taxpayers in the country have increased by almost 50 per cent over the last four years, reported Radio Pakistan.

The finance minister said while addressing the launch ceremony of the national tax directory. He further added that over 1.2 million people filed their tax returns in 2016.

Dar further said that the country's tax revenue has increased from Rs1,946 in 2013 to Rs3,362 billion.

The finance minister stated that the increase in tax revenue was achieved by bringing the privilege class in to the tax net.
