Closing Bell – PSX falls to Six Month Low

PSX witnessed its year low today as it shed more than 1,500 points, falling below the 45,000 point for the first time in over six months. The last time the index closed below 45,000 points was on Dec 08, 2016.

After the last week’s negative performance overall, the markets entered this week on a negative note as well and has lost 1,944 points or 4.15 percent in the first two sessions, eroding Market Capitalization by Rs.163 billion (USD 1.52 Billion)

The market performance has been bruised by the ongoing political upheaval in the country as well as news that the US is considering altering its Afghanistan Policy to the detriment of Pakistan.

The session witnessed a cumulative decline of 1,678.9 points or a 3.60 percent.

The index touched an intra-day high of 46,777.33 and a low of 44,823.56 points, and closed at a tally of 44,914.44 points.

The net gainers during today’s session were; Highnoon Laboratories Limited HINOON +4.38%, Abbott Laboratories ABOT +1.66%, Otsuka Pakistan Limited OTSU +5.00%, Sazgar Engineering Works Limited SAZEW +5.00% and Biafo Industries Limited BIFO 3.50%.

The net decliners during the session were; Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited UPFL -5.00%, Bata Pakistan Limited BATA -4.45%, Sanofi-Aventis Pakistan Limited SAPL -5.00%, Indus Motor Company Limited INDU -5.00% and Hinopak Motors Limited HINO -5.00%.

All Share Volume increased by 124.71 Million to 294.97 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.293.31 Billion.

Total companies traded were 386 compared to 360 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 25 closed up, 343 closed down while 18 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 16,569 to 65,108.

Value Traded increased by 3.81 Billion to Rs.12.95 Billion
