Auto Report: Indus Motor (INDU +20%) leads August Sales; Honda Atlas (HCAR) sales up by 47% year on year

Auto sales witness a fantastic growth in August, 2017 as total sales of automobiles increased by 25.2 percent year on year and13% month on month.

  • Indus Motor sales were highest for the month of August in Big Three (INDU, PSMC & HCAR) witnessing a month on month increase of 20 percent mainly contributed from a 23.4% sales increase Corolla variant helped by the newly launched face-lift.
  • Pak Suzuki Motors (PSMC) followed Indus Motors in the month-on-month sales with an increase of 13.8% in total sales, and a 50 percent increase Swift models.

Year-on-year (Aug ‘16 – Aug ‘17)

Honda (HCAR) leads the year on year sales growth with more than 47 percent growth in total sales. The new Civic variant became very popular in the market as a total of 7,767 units were sold in 2MFY18. The sales for City/Civic model were up by 24.3 percent year on year.

Pakistan Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd (PSMC) witnessed a healthy 31.7 percent increase in the year. Helped mainly by Cultus, WagonR and Mehran (68.8%, 74.8% and 28.4% respectively), barring Bolan (-7.1%) sales for all Suzuki variants went up in the last year.

Indus Motor (INDU) continues to struggle with sales as it competes against Honda for the sedan categories. Total sales for the month of August increased by merely 1.7%, despite exceptional sales from Fortuner Variant sales for Corolla and Hilux continue remain abysmal. Sales for Hilux variant were down by roughly 40 percent whereas Corolla sales witnessed a humble growth of 4.6% against 24.3% of City/Civic sales.

Month-on-month

Indus Motor (INDU) picked up on sales (+20%) for the month of August, after dismal few months. Corolla sales were up 23.4% thanks to the new variant and a fancy facelift. Corolla total sales were 4,782 units compared to 3,875 for the month of July. In other models, Fortuner sales declined month on month by 1.9% selling 5 units less than those in July.

Pak Suzuki Motors (PSMC) total sales were second to Indus Motor Co. (INDU) selling 11,888 units in August, witnessing a year on year increase of 31.7%. Swift, WagonR and Mehran variants help contribute to sales growth by 50.7%, 13.7% & 38.4% respectively. However, sales for the new Cultus model have declined by 6.2% from the last month selling 118 units less than those in July. The sales numbers are expected to pick up as interrupted Orange Cab scheme materializes.

Honda Cars (HCAR) witnessed a modest 3.4% growth in the last month, as the sales for City/Civic were only 125 units more than those in July. HCAR sold total of 4666 units of its three variants; City/Civic & BR-V.
